TSAP stands for the “Teaching
Skills Assessment Program.” It is a series of
seven online instruments
that are designed to assess knowledge about the competency areas of
teaching. The instruments all use different methodologies for measuring
competencies, and every competency is measured multiple times in multiple
instruments. The TSAP assessment is heavily performance-based; the activities
used to assess competencies emphasize performance and recognizing what
performing a particular skill or demonstrating specific knowledge would
entail.
The assessments include video presentations of teaching situations,
online student files, online lesson plans, scenarios, internet research
and use, and self-assessment. All responses are in a forced-choice format.
| INSTRUMENT |
SUMMARY |
| Self-diagnostic Instrument (SDI) |
You will be given five “capability” statements
and asked to select the one which best describes your perception
of your own current level of competency with regard to specific
skills and behaviors in each of the accomplished practice areas. |
|
Structured Targeted Interview (STI) |
You will be presented with a series of decision-making situations
and asked to select from four forced-choice options. For part
of the Instrument, you must respond within a specified time period.
Another part of instrument requires that you access Internet Web
sites in order to assimilate and apply information found on those
sites. Questions address: Continuous Improvement, Role of the
Teacher, and Technology.
|
|
| Presentation Simulation (PS) |
You will be observing two classroom teachers through a series
of short video clips. Through forced-choice questions following
each clip, you will be asked to evaluate the teacher’s behavior.
Questions address: Communication, Continuous Improvement, Critical
Thinking, Diversity, Human Development and Learning, Knowledge
of the Subject, Learning Environment, and Planning.
|
|
Case Study Simulation (CSS) |
You will be given a series of facts compiled from student files
regarding Cameron, a student who is demonstrating learning problems.
Through a series of forced-choice questions, you will use this
data to make decisions about Cameron’s education and his
teacher’s actions. Questions address: Assessment, Human
Development and Learning, and Planning.
|
|
Diversity/Ethics Simulation (DES) |
You will be presented with a number of mini-case situations.
After each, you will be asked to make ethical judgments through
a series of forced-choice questions. Questions address: Diversity
and Ethics.
|
|
Classroom Simulation (CS) |
You will be provided with multiple lesson plan segments. Through
a series of forced-choice questions that follow each segment,
you will be asked to make decisions regarding how to interpret
and/or improve each lesson plan. Questions address: Assessment,
Critical Thinking, Diversity, Human Development and Learning,
Knowledge of the Subject, Learning Environment, and Planning.
|
|
ATTP- Gap Analyzer™ (GA) |
You will be presented with a series of videos. After each video
you will be asked to identify the “best” and “worst”
option from a series of four possible teacher behaviors. Questions
address: Assessment, Communication, Critical Thinking, Learning
Environment, and Planning.
