education today |
Education is the key
to the future social and economic success of America.
But education today faces some difficult problems and unique challenges.
Today’s student population is more culturally and racially diverse
than ever before. Schools have to be able to meet the needs of all students
and keep pace with an increasingly technologically advanced society.
As teacher shortages increase, Those concerned with education today and the future of education are rising to these challenges and gradually bringing about necessary changes. The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 has been the greatest attempt to bring about change in education in decades. It emphasizes highly qualified teachers, the accountability of schools, and the availability of options for parents. Almost every state has recognized the need to attract new teachers by implementing alternative certification programs and offering financial aid to those who qualify for these programs. Also, many school districts offer programs and classes that differ from traditional programs and are designed to meet the needs of non-English speaking students, gifted students, or special education students. The EDUCATION TODAY portion of the Web site is designed to give future teachers knowledge about the issues that are currently having the most impact on today’s schools, students, and teachers. It also introduces potential educators to the vocabulary of the classroom and gives an overview of types of schools that exist around the country and the students who attend these schools. Finally, former military teachers speak honestly about what they wish someone had told them before they began teaching. Education today is changing and struggling to move ahead. Education today is also exciting and rewarding. As you prepare for your new career, you can look forward to being part of a profession that is challenging and fulfilling.
